About the Copyright Hub

The Copyright Hub has been described as a marketplace directing people to rights holders and their representatives, both across different sectors of the creative industries and across national borders. The internet is at heart cross-sector, multimedia and cross-border - licensing needs to respond to this new reality. That is the Copyright Hub's vision.

The Copyright Hub is being created to overcome three widespread problems:

  • I cannot find my way through the sheer complexity of copyright and need help with navigation, signposting and copyright education

  • I cannot find who owns what rights to specific works, for example a novel, and thus ...

  • I find it difficult to get a licence to use material protected by copyright legally

As a result the Copyright Hub has three clear objectives matching the three problems:

  • Help people find out about copyright and find their way through the complexities of copyright

  • Be a place where rights holders can, if they so choose, register their rights information via organisations connected to the Hub, so that people can find out who owns what rights to what

  • Be a place where people can get permission from rights holders to use copyright protected works legally and easily

The Copyright Hub's underlying policies are also available. See also, Charting a course for the Copyright Hub.
